Luncheon – Weaving Ethics into your Organization’s Fundraising; Sponsored by Wells Fargo

Is Ethics a part of your daily thought process? What does it mean to be an “ethical fundraiser”? With donor confidence on a steep decline over the past decade, we will have a dialogue about the role of ethics from an organizational context, exploring the role the fundraiser, the executive leadership, the board and others throughout the organization share in creating a culture of ethics and an ethical organization.

In his presentation, Josh will address the sometimes competing interests and conflicts among fundraisers, funders, organizational leaders, and board members. Grey-area hot-button issues, such as accepting funds from a tainted donor, will be considered, so bring your ethical dilemmas for an engaging and enlightening discussion!

We’re thrilled that Josh is sharing his vast expertise and experience as one of the country’s top fundraisers, and he’s also eager to answer your questions about AFP International and The UConn Foundation.

Our Speaker

Joshua R. Newton, CFRE
President & CEO, The University of Connecticut Foundation
Board of Directors (Secretary), AFP International

A lifelong southerner, Joshua Newton joined The UConn Foundation as President and CEO in 2013. His fundraising mission is to elevate the state’s flagship school to world-class in scholastics and research, as well as grow as an engine of economic development. Previously, as Vice President at Emory University (Atlanta), Newton was a driving force behind the successful Campaign Emory, a seven-year, $1.7 billion effort that ranks as the largest fundraising effort in university history. Nearly 150,000 donors contributed to the campaign. Initially appointed Assistant Vice President for Health Sciences Development at Emory, he was promoted to Senior Associate Vice President for Arts and Sciences Development in 2005. Before Emory, Josh spent nearly five years at Converse College (Spartanburg, SC) as Executive Director of Development, and he served as Director of Major Gifts at Presbyterian Hospital Foundation (Charlotte, NC).

Josh has been a member of AFP since 1994, and was President of the Greater Atlanta Chapter during 2007. In 2008, he was elected to the AFP International Board, where he currently serves as Secretary. Josh earned the CFRE designation and is also a member of CASE. He graduated with a BA in Business Administration from Belmont Abbey College (in Belmont, NC, near Charlotte).

Who We Are

Since 1995, we have helped leading nonprofits across the United States and Canada remove their biggest planned giving obstacles and double the results of their planned giving efforts with limited time and money. We listen to nonprofits—and their donors—and take what we hear to continually perfect the planned giving bridge between nonprofits and their donors. The result is the most cost effective, time efficient planned giving presentation system—donor motivation “in a box.”

Through The Donor Motivation Program® and The Donor Motivation Professionals of North America, a network of trained professionals, we have helped North American charities “motivate planned giving!” Tens of thousands of donors have engaged in our Donor Presentation Experience and rated it either “one of the finest” or “absolutely the best” of its type.  Why?  It “speaks donor!”
