FAIRFIELD COUNTY CHAPTER

The AFP Fairfield County Chapter invites YOU to join our network and develop as a professional fundraiser! Membership in the AFP Fairfield County Chapter Benefits You!

Membership with AFP includes participation and involvement in both AFP chapter and society programs. Our Fairfield County Chapter, governed by local bylaws and administered by our board of directors, presents local programs and activities of interest to both new and experienced fundraisers. Membership in the AFP Fairfield County Chapter affords you the opportunity to network with well over 150 fund raising professionals, including:

  •    Invitations to our monthly luncheon meetings, featuring local, regional and national speakers, with commentary on topics important specifically to fund raisers. Average attendance is over 60, giving members and non-members opportunities to meet and to discuss concerns and to share ideas from their respective organizations.

Active membership is open to persons who have had at least one (1) year of experience at the time of application as fundraising professionals, are self-employed or associated with an organization, institution or firm and are compensated for his/her services. Active members hold some degree of accountability for income-generation with in the philanthropic process; estimate at least a quarter of their time is spent on fundraising related responsibilities; subscribe to the AFP Code of Ethical Principles and Standards of Professional Practice (“Code”) and its bylaws; promote the Donor Bill of Rights and, are employed or have been employed by an institution or organization that provides benefits to society.

It has been decided that paid and unpaid professionals outside the U.S. and Canada who have direct responsibility for an organization's development program will be allowed to join AFP in the Active category.

Introductory membership is open to persons newly employed in the field; full-time students in a degree-granting, certificate or diploma program; members who work for grassroots organizations with an operating budget of $250,000 or less; executive directors who spend less than 25% of their time on fundraising related responsibilities; and volunteers. All must subscribe to the AFP Code of Ethical Principles and Standards of Professional Practice and its bylaws and promote the Donor Bill of Rights. Membership in this category is limited to a two-year duration.

Associate membership may be extended to persons who are engaged in fields related to fundraising, volunteers, or those who have mutual interests with fundraising professionals, and who subscribe to the AFP Code of Ethical Principles and Standards of Professional Practice and its bylaws; and promote the Donor Bill of Rights.

Your team of ethical advisors is available to answer your questions and address your concerns.

Online AFP Career Planner. This new tool not only allows you to identify your own skill level and define areas of improvement, but also helps you find the resources you need to improve those skills. The planner also helps you develop and keep track of your own individual learning plan.

AFP Resource Center. Need help with a feasibility study? Looking for state registration requirements or campaign timelines? Knowledgeable staff works with more than 3,200 reference works and periodicals to prepare a customized response to your questions—from endowments or ethics to online fundraising. Even if you use the AFP Resource Center just three times during the year, you will recoup the cost of your membership!

International Conference on Fundraising.  AFP’s annual conference offers more than 150 education sessions, the Exposition on Fundraising and Philanthropy, motivational conference plenary speakers, the AFP Awards for Philanthropy Banquet, networking and many other opportunities that only an international conference can provide.

Educational programs and courses. In addition to the annual conference, AFP offers the First Course (online and in a classroom setting), the CFRE Review Course (now offered online as well as in a classroom setting), Audioconferences and the Faculty Training Academy. Member discounted rates are available for many programs and educational opportunities.

Government relations and advocacy. AFP continues to advocate for the passage in the United States of the CARE Act, offering increased tax incentives for charitable giving. In Canada, AFP has worked on privacy and charitable giving legislation and has representation on influential government committees. AFP is also actively pursuing media coverage favorable to and informative about the philanthropic process.

Research. AFP provides members with free access to the annual AFP Compensation and Benefits report as well as the AFP State of Fundraising study issued in conjunction with the annual conference.

Certification. In addition to member discounts for the CFRE program, AFP administers the advanced-level ACFRE credential.

As you can see, there are numerous benefits for you—no matter how little or extensive your fundraising experience may be. Furthermore, services and products are continually studied, planned and implemented to provide all AFP members with the most useful resources they need, in the format that is most convenient for them to use.

Those joining in the Introductory member category will be grandfathered in for the two years at $75 + chapter dues for each year.
